Ten Good Things
It’s dark, it’s cold, it’s been incredibly rainy… and in true ‘it never rains but it pours’ fashion, my roof repair and annual boiler service have been immediately followed by a new washing machine.
So it’s time to celebrate ten good things - five that have already happened, and five to look forward to.
I saw Billy Eichner’s new film Bros a couple of weeks ago and it was an absolute riot. I can highly recommend it!
It’s only 31 days until the days start getting longer again here in the Northern Hemisphere. We can make it through.
It’s hot chocolate season and I’m wholeheartedly celebrating. Particularly good ones recently from the Waterstones cafe and from The Tinker’s Granddaughter in Lymington, Hampshire (where I also had a gorgeous cinnamon bun)
.
For all the disappointment coming out of COP27 in Egypt this week, one hugely positive step: the agreement of a global “loss and damage” fund to help the countries already being worst hit by the effects of climate change.
Laura Wood’s new book, The Agency for Scandal, comes out on January 5th. You better believe I’ve pre-ordered it.
I was in London for work this week, which meant an opportunity to get falafel for lunch from the marvellous Pilpel. They do one thing (falafel) and they do it incredibly well.
Three of my friends from high school are engaged to their various beaux. I can’t wait to celebrate with them all!
Next year, I’m moving house, and I’ll be much closer to my family (and their cats…). I’ll tell you more when it happens, but I’m so excited.
I went to the Red Squirrel in Edinburgh twice last week with different visitors. Any opportunity to have their haggis bonbons (and they make a fantastic Old Fashioned).
My work team are having a get-together in a few weeks to celebrate what we’ve achieved this year. I can’t wait to see everyone’s festive knitwear. (I treated myself to a new Christmas jumper!)
I’d love to hear some of your Good Things too.
Speak soon,
Lily
