Welcome to this week’s roundup of three things I’ve been enjoying!

🧱 LEGO Space Mars Hoverbike. It’s been a tiring week - the first week back at work after a holiday always is, even without three travel days and a general election. So yesterday evening I took 15 minutes away from my screens, put a podcast on, and opened one of of the little Space-themed ‘gift with purchase’ LEGO poly bags I’ve accrued along with my more ‘serious’ set purchases. (Psst - I’ve found the easiest way to buy these sort of discontinued little LEGO sets is on Vinted).
📕 You Belong With Me* - Mhairi McFarlane. (*ad - Amazon affiliate link) Mhairi is one of the writers who got me properly into rom-coms. I have such a strong memory of reading her debut, You Had Me At Hello*, in the tiny bedroom I had my final year of uni (it was maybe 8 foot square?), and then instantly buying all of her other books that were available at the time. She’s now firmly in my ‘pre-order all her books’ category, and I saved her newest for my trip to Wales last week. It was, of course, a stunner - and provided tonnes of inspiration for the normal person/ famous person romance I’m working on… (in fact, I’m not even sure it was a normal person/ famous person romance before I read this…)
🎲 Codenames*. We have a board games group in my apartment building and this week we played a few rounds of Codenames in lieu of a big complicated game. Pals, I laughed so hard. At one point, I gave the clue ‘Budgie’ for the array of cards shown below (it’s a little bit like Taboo crossed with Battleships, in that you’re trying to give a clue for a specific square, but stop your teammates guessing any of the others), and my pal (>5 years younger than me, in his early 20s) was completely unable to guess the answer. Must be an age thing…
Noticed something a bit different? For the next couple of months I’m going to try out separating my weekly recommendations out from the ‘thinkier’ piece that goes along with them. Let’s see how it goes - I’d love to hear any thoughts.
