Welcome to this week’s roundup of three things I’ve been enjoying!
📚 Station Eleven - Emily St John Mandel*. (*Ad - Amazon affiliate link) As you might remember, I have a tattoo of a quotation from this book and it’s one of my favourites of all time. I was overdue for my regular re-read and so took advantage of a couple of long train journeys last weekend to dive in. As ever, wonderfully life-affirming and so encouraging about the power of art and the courage to do what’s right and necessary (I’ve shown the original US cover, which is absolutely my favourite cover art for this book).
✨ The Modern Witch Tarot*. I haven’t always been hugely into tarot and spirituality, but I picked up this deck at Rare Birds in Edinburgh and I’ve really enjoyed dipping my toe into this world. Every time I get the cards out I say ‘look, being realistic, all the cards do is help prompt you to think more about what’s going on’ - and then I find the readings jaw-droppingly relevant to my life. I generally do a really simple three-card past-present-future tarot spread, which I find simple to read and interpret. The cards have gorgeous artwork throughout and there’s a beautifully bound little guidebook to help you interpret what the cards are saying. I took the deck with me away on last week’s adventure trip and they produced some really remarkable readings (all positive!) for a fair few of us on the trip.
🍫 Bahlsen Pick-Up. These are essentially two buttery biscuits with a thin slab of chocolate in between. They’re incredible. I first tried these when I was studying in Germany ten years ago and, at the time, you couldn’t get them in the UK. But now they’re even in the Sainsbury’s Local around the corner from uni and I may be developing a dependence on them…
