Welcome to this week’s roundup of three things I’ve been enjoying!

📕 Float My Boat* - Harri Beaumont. (*ad - Amazon affiliate link) Between this and watching the Olympics coverage, I’ve been considering whether I can join rowing as well as sailing and tennis when I go back to uni in September (yes, I know, another rich-person sport. I am once again a caricature of myself!). Fantastic fake-dating sports romance with a great business plot line too.
🎵 “Shoes… More Shoes” - Nicola Coughlan & Ellis Miah. I don’t know if this song is supposed to be ironic, but it’s a banger and I really want to put it on and dance to it in a darkened room this summer. Just trust me.
📺 You’ve Got Mail on Hot & Bothered podcast. I love a deeply think-y analysis of something I think I know inside out. I can’t wait now to dig into my next watch of YGM with a more (lovingly) critical eye. The analysis of the complete sexlessness of the romance in the film had me thinking hard about why I as an ace person love it so much. And yes, Joe Fox is gaslighting Kathleen Kelly.
Noticed something a bit different? For the next couple of months I’m trying out separating my weekly recommendations out from the ‘thinkier’ piece that goes along with them. Let’s see how it goes - I’d love to hear any thoughts.
Last week’s longer newsletter:
Staying soft
As you might remember, I (like almost everyone else, it seems) have had Covid again lately. This bout with it wasn’t as bad as my previous two times - it felt almost like I skipped forward to day 5 or 6 of the illness, compared to the timelines I’d had before.
