Welcome to this week’s roundup of three things I’ve been enjoying!
📕 The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen* - KJ Charles. (*ad - Amazon affiliate link) If someone had told me that this involved a huge treasure hunt and rival smuggling gangs, I’d have picked it up much sooner than I did. Loved it!
🍅 Gazpacho. I’d never choose to drink a vegetable juice… but in hot sticky weather I love to have a small bowlful of gazpacho either with dinner or for dinner. It’s so refreshing and it feels like it does your insides good. There’s also a Prussian memory there, to visiting a friend’s family in Madrid almost a decade ago. It was a hot sunny July, and my English body could not cope - but his mum made gazpacho and it was wonderful.
🎲 That Escalated Quickly*. Another Prime Day purchase of mine, this game has become incredibly popular in my board games group (patting myself on the back for that one!). Everyone gets dealt a number card between 1 and 10, and has to give an answer that corresponds to that number to a prompt question. For example: You’re camping, and you wake up in the morning and open your tent door. What do you see? on a scale where 1 is least likely to stay another night and 10 is most likely to stay another night. Then the guesser has to try and put the answers in order. It’s so much fun. (Perhaps unsurprisingly, it’s from the people behind Exploding Kittens*)
Noticed something a bit different? For the next couple of months I’m trying out separating my weekly recommendations out from the ‘thinkier’ piece that goes along with them. Let’s see how it goes - I’d love to hear any thoughts.

I'm seeing gazpacho everywhere this week! Might indeed need to get some in for the weekend 🍅
